I have a similar policy for grading.
- But I came to it as a matter of optimization for another purpose first, and confirmed its value through cognitive experience.
- The other purpose was coordinating comments.
Kahneman's comments about "decorrelating error" are purely statistical. They are not related to "jumping to conclusions" or "halo effect", etc. Rather decorrelation is a technique that System 2 can use to improve decision-making.
- This is related to "bubbles" or "echo chambers" in social networks.
Next time I want to start talking about social networks. For the transition I will talk about the idea of information cascades, a fairly extreme case of correlated errors.
