Yet Another Level

- There still remains one puzzle that could hide true discrimination
against women.
- Why are the majors that women prefer the ones with lower rates of
admission?
- The faculty are more selective of students.
- There are insufficient resources to educate more students.
- The latter seems very important (based on my experience as a
professor). Why do these majors have fewer resources?
- They're not profitable for the university (less consulting,
patents, research funding, etc.)
- The university knows that there are few job opportunities for
graudates.
- The university deliberately discriminates against female scholars
and students.
- At least in sports, the U.S. Congress has decided that the situation
is unacceptable. In "Title IX", it commanded that some revenue from
profitable sports (football, basketball) be transferred to other
sports (to provide scholarships, equipment, travel), and in
particular there is a formula for women's sports.
