- An economic good is "something useful that is scarce".
- "Useful" means "has a purpose."
- "Scarce" means "somebody somewhere would like to have more of it sometime."
- So we see that information can be an economic good.
- Education gives more information to students. They pay for it, so they must want it.
- Marketing gives more information to potential customers.
- Governments and others conduct surveys of voters (or customers). Again, this is costly, so it must be useful to somebody, and there isn't enough information so they need to get more.
