Homework #6

Up

Due: June 3, 2015 11:00.

Write plain text e-mail to me. (Do not attach a wordprocessor file such as Microsoft Word.) Submit to turnbull@sk.tsukuba.ac.jp. Subject should contain the course number FH11011 in hankaku romaji. (If you are registered for FH61011, use FH11011 anyway. This is for sorting incoming mail, and not related to university administration.)

1. Find a question

Find an "interesting" question that can be answered using principles you have learned in social economics courses (usually microeconomics). The question shall be about some pattern of events or behavior you personally have observed (that is not something you read about in a book). It might be something that happens with books or on TV; you don't have to have seen it in person. "Interesting" is up to your taste.

This question shall be the title of your essay.

2. Answer your own question

You may write in English or Japanese. You do not have to use all of the space allowed; many excellent papers are much shorter. The ideas are the important part. Do not use complex or technical words very much. Imagine yourself talking to a relative who has never taken a course in social science. The best papers would be understood by such a person.

You should not do library research (or even drag out your economics textbooks) for this essay.

3. Summarize your essay in English

Briefly restate the question and the basic principle of your answer.

Space limits

Your essay (parts 1 and 2) must be 500 words or less in English or 800 characters or less in Japanese, including the title.

The English summary (part 3) must be 50 words or less.

Due: June 3, 2015 11:00.
