Nuclear Power Zero!

This article is a stub_.

Nuclear power is clearly dangerous, especially in earthquake-prone Japan, so deactivation and decommission of nuclear power generation plants is in that sense desirable. However, the politicians who advocate this policy are deliberately misleading you, and some are either really stupid or actually lying. The lesser deception is the refusal to talk about the cost of decommission, both in financial terms and in terms of policies such as anti-global-warming efforts and location of waste dumps. Those who talk about decommissioning all nuclear power plants in ten years are lying; this is not possible with current or proposed technology, and even if it were, it is not politically feasible in Japan. Those plants will remain where they are, mostly filled with spent fuel, for several decades. This is hardly an improvement in safety -- remember, 2 of the 3 plants at Fukushima that melted down were already shut down.
