Next Previous Up Top
- Minister Yanagisawa (Health and Welfare) made a remark in a
political speech characterizing women as "birthing machines", to
which the opposition parties have responded by boycotting discussion
in the Diet.
- He later remarked that many young couples have a "healthy desire"
for two or more children, and has been criticized for this, too.
- Representative Kan of the main opposition party remarked that two
great industrial cities, Tokyo and Nagoya, are the "least
productive" in Japan in the sense of birth rate.
