Hi everyone / 今晩は皆さん

English follows Japanese.  NOTE: Some small additions have been made.
In the English these are marked with <!> at the beginning.  Also I
consistently mistyped the dates as 10 (October) rather than 01
(January).  I think they're all correct now.

明日の方針：

1.  学類生はプロジェクターを使用する発表の練習をし、下記に焦点を当
    てる：

    a.  流暢で簡潔的な自己紹介。
    b.  魅力的で完全なタイトルスライド。
    c.  内容を表すスライドを２つ以上。ただし、焦点は形式に当てよう：ス
        ライドの内容を表すタイトル（例：「序論」ではなく、テーマを選ん
        だ理由／目的を表す言葉；「先行研究」ではなく、分野や主な研究課
        題）および分かりやすくスライド番号。スライドは自分のためではな
        く、視聴者の深い理解を促すための補助資料であることを覚えよう。
    d.  発表の全ての引用文献のための完全な参考文献リスト。もちろん、全
        著者、出版年、とタイトル。著書なら、出版社も。雑誌等の論文や記
        事なら、雑誌名、ある場合には出版の月・四半期等、ある場合には巻・
        号、そしてページの範囲。ダウンロードされた電子版の場合には、そ
        のURLまたはDOI。
    e.  コンテンツを充実する。（ただし、以上を課題を優先すべき。）

2.  研究生は入試面接発表の練習を行う。プロジェクターや印刷された資料は
    使わず、下記の点に焦点を当てる：

    a.  流暢で簡潔的な自己紹介（名前、受験番号、「ターンブル研究室研究
        生」、出身地区＝国、市区省）。（２０秒）
    b.  自分の理由あるいは目的：なぜ
        i.  大学院の勉強を
        ii. 筑波大学の社会工学学位プログラムで
        iii. ターンブル先生の指導のもとで
        研究することの目的や理由を説明する。（１.５〜２分）
    c.  研究計画の要約を述べる。
        i.  テーマを簡潔的に言う。（これから始まる。）
        ii. テーマを選択した理由。
        iii. 研究課題（仮説および研究で証明したり検討したりしたいこと）。
        iv. 期待できる結果（iiiと統合できる）。
        v.  異義や重要性（科学や実践への貢献；もっとも重要！)
        （２.５〜３分）

3.  学類生はパワー
    ポイントの原稿やそれに含まれていない印刷資料の原稿を１月２５日（土）
    １７：００まで提出すること。参考文リストは論文に含まれ、発表にふく
    まれていない文献を含んで完成した参考文献リストを入れること。

次のゼミ： １月２７日（月）１５：１５（曜日変更！）

1.  学類生の発表練習（上記同様。ただし、全コンテンツ）
2.  研究生（受験生）の発表練習（上記同様）

学類生の発表会： １月２８日（火）１２：１５〜１２：４５、３E２１０。

    Ｍ１、研究生の出席を期待しています。

Here's the agenda for tomorrow:

1.  Undergraduate students will practice their presentations using the
    projector, concentrating on the following points:

    a.  Smooth and brief self-introductions.
    b.  Attractive and complete title slide.
    c.  At least two content slides, with focus on format: an
        informative title (eg, instead of "Introduction", a brief
        reference to the main point of background for the thesis;
        instead of "Previous Research", a description of the field of
        research), <!> and easily visible slide numbers.  Let's
        remember that the slides are not for the presenter, they are
        visual aids for the audience's understanding.
    d.  Complete bibliography for *all* citations in the presentation,
        including author and year of publication, and title of the
        work.  For books, also the publisher.  For articles in
        journals, also the journal name, month or quarter of
        publication (where available), volume and number (where
        available) and page range.  Where electronic content was
        downloaded, the URL (DOI is OK).
    e.  As much content as possible (least important).

2.  Kenkyusei will practice their presentations, without supporting
    handouts or the projector, concentrating on the following points:

    a.  Smooth and brief self-introduction (name, examination ID
        number, "Turnbull Zemi", and place of origin = city, country,
        optional prefecture/province/state).  (20 seconds)
    b.  Motivations for
        i.  graduate study
        ii. at the Faculty of Policy and Planning Science in the
        University of Tsukuba (<!> Look up faculty and mention their
        research fields, only if applicable.)
        iii. in the Turnbull Zemi
        (about 1.5-2 minutes).

    c.  Description of research plan, including
        i.  statement of thesis (should be first)
        ii. motivation for choice of thesis
        iii. 1-2 main research questions (hypotheses, ideas you want
            your research to prove or investigate)
        iv. expected results (can be combined with iii)
        v.  importance (who benefits <!> Both scientists and practical
            people.  Most important!)
        (about 2.5-3 minutes).

3.  Undergraduates submit draft presentation materials to me by 10/25
    (Sat) 17:00.  <!> Bibliographies should be complete, including
    references that you cite in the paper but not in the presentation.
