Criticize the questionnaire

Consider the questionnaire form distributed to you, and answer the following questions. Answers due by email by 10am, Friday, June 19. Please write your answers directly in the email; do not send Word files as attachments.

The questionnaire was distributed to the students in my class on Wednesday. Express your opinions about the following questions:

  1. Who wrote this questionnaire?
  2. Who distributed the questionnaire?
  3. To whom does the author(s) intend to present the results of the survey?
  4. In answering questions 1 - 3, did you rely most on the prefatory material at the top, or on the questions themselves? Why?
  5. In the context of your answers to questions 1 - 3, what is the purpose of the questionnaire survey? Note that the questionnaire is divided into three sections. Your answer should reflect that structure.
  6. In answering question 5, did you rely most on the prefatory material at the top, or on the questions themselves? Why?

For questions 7 - 9, consider the content of each individual question. In these questions you are asked to give explanations for "two" survey questions. Of course if you don't have two in your list, you only answer for one, or none, however many you have. There is no implication that there are any questions satisfying the description, or exactly two, or more than two.

  1. Are there any questions whose answer format seems inadequate for the content of the questions? If so, list them here, and give explanations of the problem for two of the poorly constructed question. Include your proposal for improving the answer format of the two questions.
  2. Are there any questions that seem ambiguous or otherwise difficult to understand? If so, list them here, and give descriptions of the problem for two of the poorly constructed questions. If possible, suggest improvements for those two questions.
  3. Are there any questions which do not seem to serve the purpose of the questionnaire as you understand it? (Refer to your answer to question 5 above.) If so, list them here, and give descriptions of the reasons you believe the question is "off target" for two of those questions.
  4. Having answered question 9 based on your answer to question 5, would you like to change your answer to question 5? If your answer is "yes", explain your new statement of purpose here. If your answer is "no", explain how you would improve two of the questions you listed in your answer to question 9.
  5. Give your overall evaluation of the ability of this questionnaire to accomplish its purpose as you understand it.
