Twitter allows us to map out social networks. The map of followers is a directed network. The map of follows is a different directed network (not everyone you follow follows you, and vice versa). The map of friends is derived from the follows relationship: if you follow me and I follow you, we are friends. This is an undirected network, and is different from the former two maps (in a sense, it is the intersection of the two maps).
